Late Night

I have officially decided to just continue where I left off with this blog instead of starting a brand spankin new one. So here's the first post from the "new one" :

For the last 4ish months I have been living the "good" life. People constantly telling me how jealous they were of my freedom from working, from schedules. For the last 4ish months I have been living my own personal hell.

I am glad to announce that my hell is over. I have accepted a job as a Studio Page for Late Show with David Letterman. The pay stinks, I don't get benefits.... but the true BENEFITS are uncountable. Not only to get me off the couch, but it also has helped me to scrape my self esteem up off the floor and I feel like a whole person again. I will also meet people that can help me find another job, make contacts, and above all... just get to watch the show everyday live. =)

Since this job is only part time, I have also accepted an internship with Warner Brothers in their Film Publicity department. As far as I know now, I will be assisting the publicists with a variety of tasks, including helping out with film screenings in our building as well as going to premieres for the BIG films like The Matrix and The Last Samurai.

So this is the beginning of the rest of my life as a paid employee. This is the FIRST job in the career path that I have chosen. FINALLY!!!!

I wrote on January 28th, 2003:

Hi everyone!

I apologize for the mass emails, but it’s very hard to find time to write individually and I can’t remember what stories I have told to whom, so this is the best way to let everyone know what’s going on.

Well, it’s cold as H#$%, yesterday was in the single digits and they say with wind chill it was negative something, the actual number doesn’t matter anymore, its just COLD. They also say that this is one of the worst winters in NYC and I say thanks for the nice “warm” welcome.

I am really enjoying my job. To sum it all up, a monkey could do my job just as good but I am getting to see a lot of cool things, how the show works, meeting tons of important people and most exciting of all, Conan asked me how my weekend was. Ah, the little joys in life. Last week I was sorta “promoted” and I will be filling in for the assistant to the director of the show for a few days in the next few months, so I must be making somewhat of a good impression on these people. There’s really nothing glamorous about the job itself, but it does entail sitting in the control room for the duration of the show and getting to hang out in the studio more than before, so that’s really cool.

Haven’t really seen any of my favorite celebs yet (soon enough, Matthew McConaughey is on next week!!) , but I have seen quite a few. The highlights include getting a ham and provolone sandwich for one Mr. Martin Lawrence (who, when delivered, requested that his “posse” hook me up and I made 10 bucks off of errand), standing right next to Conan and Penn and Teller discuss pros and cons of their jobs just like regular folks, except it was the weirdest thing in the world to actually hear Teller talk, and I can definitely say that Dylan McDermott is MUCH better looking in person than on tv.

Well, that’s about it. I definitely miss home, but I’ve been so overwhelmed with this huge change in my life (walking over ten blocks to the subway, using public transportation, and wearing a HAT and SCARF, being in NYC everyday, working in such a historical building like Rockefeller Plaza) that I haven’t had much time to really think about it and get depressed, so that’s a plus. I hope all is well in everyone else’s lives and I hope to get the chance to hear about it, so WRITE BACK with details. =)
